Ohhhh amore! What’s better than being in love?
Whether you’re dating an Italian, married to your high school sweetheart, or still on the prowl, everyone knows that love rules the world.
Italians in particular are depicted all the time as being some of the most romantic people in the world, and whether it’s true or not, there’s something oh so sweet about those musical Italian words.

We thought it would be a fun sfida for you, a great way to practice your Italian AND feel a little romantic yourself.
Part 1: Greetings
First things first, how to start? I suggest some of these openings to lead off:
— Amore mio – My love
— Caro/a mio/a – My dear
— Sole della mia vita – Sun of my life
— Alla mia dolce metà – To my sweet (better) half
— Al mio mondo – To my world
Part 2: Sweet Words
Then, here are some sweet words / phrases you can use to dive right in to the sweet stuff:
— Ti amo. – I love you.
— Ti amo tanto. – I love you a lot.
— Sei la mia anima gemella. – You’re my soulmate. (Literally: You’re my twin soul.)
— Ti vorrei sposare. – I want to marry you.
— Ti voglio per sempre. – I want you forever.
— Ho voglia di te. – I need you.
— Ti desidero. – I want you / I crave for you.
— Mi manchi. – I miss you.
— Sei il mio cuore. – You’re my heart.
— Hai tutto il mio cuore. – You have my whole heart.
— Mi manca/mancano… – I miss (fill in with one of the below, change from manca or mancano depending if the next word is singular or plural. Example: Mi manca il tuo bacio vs. mi mancano i tuoi occhi, learn more about the verb mancare here).
Il tuo bacio – your kiss
I tuoi occhi – your eyes
Le tue labbra – your lips
Il tuo amore – your love
Il tuo sorriso – your smile
Il tuo riso – your laugh
— Sono tutto/a tuo/a. – I’m all yours.
— Non posso vivere senza di te. – I can’t live without you.
Part 3: Signatures
Don’t be afraid to add your own sentiments and endearments and then sign off with one of these:
— La tua/o… (then your name) – Your…(name goes here, so for example, “Your Rachel (La tua Rachel) or Your Marco (Il tuo Marco)
— Con tanto affetto – With tons of affection
— Con tanto amore – With tons of love
— Con tutto il mio cuore – With all my heart
— Con un sacco di baci – With a ton of kisses
— Un abbraccio – A hug
— Un bacio – A kiss
