3 exercises to practice Italian pronouns

The best way to remember how to use pronouns? Practice — both written, like below, and in conversation.

Below you’ll find three quick exercises of varying levels that you can do to get some practice in.

EXERCISE 1

Level: Beginner / Upper Beginner

Directions: Fill in the blanks below with the correct pronouns. Note: I stole this from my 10-Day Italian Pronouns Challenge.

1.) Non ____ parlo. – I am not talking to him.

2.) ____ ho offerto un caffé. – I offered her a cup of coffee. (Think: I offered a cup of coffee TO her.)

3.) Voglio telefonar____ domani. – I want to call her tomorrow.

4.) Cos’hai detto quando ____ hai scritto? – What did you say when you wrote to him?

 

EXERCISE 2

Level: Beginner / Upper Beginner

1.) _________ abbiamo dato un libro ieri. – We gave a book to her yesterday.

2.) Puoi spiegar________ la grammatica? – Can you explain the grammar to him?

3.) ___________ piace mangiare qui. – They like to eat here. (Hint: It’s two words!)

 

EXERCISE 3

Level: Intermediate

Silvia: A ____________ sembra interessante. Puoi ____________? – It seems interesting to me. Can you lend it (the book) to me?

Giulia: Certo, però se Marco ____________ ____________ chiede, ____________ che pensavo che fosse un libro fantastico. – Certainly, but if Marco asks you about it, tell him that I thought it was a fantastic book.


EXERCISE 1 ANSWERS

2.) LE ho offerto un caffé. – I offered her a cup of coffee. (Think: I offered a cup of coffee TO her.)

EXERCISE 2 ANSWERS

Le abbiamo dato un libro ieri. – We gave a book to her yesterday.

Puoi spiegargli la grammatica? – Can you explain the grammar to him?

A loro piace mangiare qui. – They like to eat here.

 

EXERCISE 3 ANSWERS

Silvia: A me sembra interessante. Puoi prestarmelo? – It seems interesting to me. Can you lend it (the book) to me?

Giulia: Certo, però se Marco te lo chiede, digli che pensavo che fosse un libro fantastico. – Certainly, but if Marco asks you about it, tell him that I thought it was a fantastic book.
