My 8 Favorite Songs in Italian (Upbeat, Soulful, and Full of Love)

December 27, 2014 By Cher 17 Comments

 8 fave songs

Fumo e malinconia – Grido feat. Sylvie Simbi

This song gives me the feels.

It’s about a couple who get into a fight. She leaves. He freaks out. They both regret everything they said.

And I love you but I can’t show it well,
And I hate myself for not being able to stay stable,
This castle without a queen is dark,
And everything fizzles out.

Fumo e malinconia Lyrics

Ti porto via con me – Jovanotti

I love this song because it reminds of all of the American songs about having tonight be the last night.

It’s modern, fast-paced, and puts a smile on my face.

In questa notte fantastica
In questo inizio del mondo
I nostri sguardi si cercano
Con ali fatte di musica
Posso toccare il cielo

On this fantastic night
In this beginning of the world
Our gazes search for each other
With wings made of music
I can touch the sky

Ti porto via con me lyrics

Per dirti ciao! – Tiziano Ferro

I think this song is beautiful because it’s a story about how he lost someone he loved.

Despite the depressing topic, it’s actually quite an upbeat song and gives this hope of finding lost love.

A tear blows in the wind
That returns to you
For telling you hi, hi my baby, I remember in which I hid years of happiness…
Hi and look at me facing this life as if you were still here.

Per dirti ciao! lyrics

Danzare – Vito Lavita feat. Toni Tuklan

This song will make you smile and want to get up in dance.

Sì sei speciale
io voglio restare
con te ballare

Tu sei importante
brilla, dai vieni e brilla

Yes you’re special
I want to stay
With you dancing

You are important
Shining, come on you come and shine
You are my star
You are the woman that I would like with me

Danzare testo

Scintille – Annalisa

I like this song because it reminds me of pop-inspired circus music.

That’s it.

Tu come un colpo di scena
Scivola scivola

You are like a dramatic turn of events
Slide slide
A chill on my back
For you that maybe one day you’ll be only mine
Or maybe only a dream already finished

Scintille testo

Vespa 50 special – Lunapop

Warning: Happiness-inducing.

But how great it is to around with wings underneath the feet
If you have a Vespa Special that takes away the problems

Vespa 50 special Lyrics

Un attimo ancora – Gemelli Diversi

The definition of soulful music in Italian.

l’abbiamo capito,
ma a dirselo è dura.
Give me only one minute, one puff of breath,
one more moment.
Staying together is over,
we have understood,
but to say it is hard.

Un attimo ancora Lyrics

L’estate – Greta

Because she sings this song in the same way that summer feels.

Watch how time changes the city
You feel outside the wind and everything goes away
It always tries to tell me this is reality

L’estate Lyrics

50 Special, old classic, good choice Hannah! I suggest you to check out La notte dei Desideri of Jovanotti, if you liked Ti porto via con me, you’d love this one. Ligabue is also a big old italian classic, his Urlando contro il cielo is a rocky and energic tune. Gemelli diversi did this amazing song called Per farti sorridere, that’s one of my faves! Tiziano, he’s just the best ever. I was born listening to his songs and after 20 years i still like them. (You can get from that one i’m italian) I haven’t left a comment with my favourite songs, just suggestions. Hope you don’t get mad, loved your song choice.

Just revisiting this thread as it’s shown when I googled my name.. ONG you really don’t know who Lucio Dalla was? Pls Google.. :p He is a grande cantante-autore! He wrote Caruso, made famous by Pavarotti. You would love his songs I’m sure!

I am trying to become familiar with Italian contemporary music, so this selection of songs by you is so helpful. Thank you for all of your creative ideas. Because songs are really a form of poetry, it is more challenging to get the ideas than reading a book or a newspaper. Therefore, listening to music, besides being a lot of fun, is a new learning experience for me.

I’m so glad you found this list useful, Alan! I agree that learning through music can be a lot more fun than learning from a textbook.

Wow! I like some of these choices. I enjoy the music of Jovanotti, Raf and Tiziano Ferro among others. Some songs I have “discovered” may be dated in Italy, (Come sei bella di Massimo Di Cataldo) but are new to me and therefore I consider some of them among my favourites. You might however like Ti scattero una foto and La differenza tra me e te di Tiziano Ferro. kepe up the good work Cher. Love your site. Alf.

Your new discoveries might be dated, but that certainly doesn’t mean that they’re less noteworthy. I LOVE Come sei bella by Massimo di Cataldo. Thanks for the kind words, Alf!

My absolute favorite Italian singers that I never tire of are Michele Zarrillo and Eros Ramazzotti, especially their live concerts on YTube. Tiziano Verro is also another favorite. I don’t particularly enjoy rap, being old school that likes a melody.

You can always check out the Italian top 40 charts. I am currently listening to a lot of Francesca Michielin and Fedez. Check out “Io non abito al mare” and “sconosciuti da una vita.”
