— Fare una gaffe –To make an embarrassing mistake
— Cappuccino per colazione – Cappuccino for breakfast
— Fare la valigia – To pack a suitcase
— Una giacca impermeabile – Rainproof jacket
— Degli stivali di gomma– Some rainboots
— Può aiutarmi? (formal) – Can you help me?
— Posso/potrei provarlo/a?– Can/could I try it on?
You would use the “o” ending if the thing you’re trying on is masculine…like un vestito – a dress or un maglione – a sweater…and you would use “a” when you’re trying on something that is a feminine word…like una giacca – a jacket or una camicia – a shirt.
— Porto la 38. – I’m size 38.
— Porto il 35 di scarpe. – I wear size 35 shoes.
— Quando apre? – When do you open?
— Quando chiude? – When do you close?
— Chiude per pranzo? – Are you closed at lunch?
— Ci sono tanti piatti buoni da assaggiare! – There are so many good plates to try!
— Chi più ne ha più ne metta. – And so on and so forth/the list goes on and on
— Sbizzarrirsi – To indulge in
— Gli affettati – Cold cuts
— Parlo un po’ d’Italiano. – I speak a little Italian.
— Può ripeterlo, per favore? – Can you repeat that?
— Dov’è la stazione dei treni? – Where is the train station?
— Dove si comprano i biglietti? – Where do you buy tickets?
— Mi sono perso/a. – I’m lost. (–o ending for masculine; –a ending for feminine)
— Questo è l’autobus/il treno per… – Is this the bus/train for…?
— Dov’è la metro? – Where is the metro?
— Via – Street
— A destra – To the right
— A sinistra – To the left
— Avanti diritto – Straight ahead
— Vicino – Nearby
