Mini-story: What do all Italians love? Pt.2

September 27, 2013 By Cher

This episode’s audio doesn’t exist, and we have technology to blame (poof! gone into cyberspace!). Instead of listening to this episode, feel free to use the notes below to learn more about the topic. And if you’re like, “CHER, NO. I NEED THIS EPISODE,” then let me know in the comments below. I’ll put it on my list to record again!

Transcript:

Adesso prendo un cappuccino ogni giorno. E mi sono innamorata dell’Italia e dell’italiano.

Apprezzo i monumenti, la storia, il cibo, l’architettura, e la gente.

Vorrei vivere in Italia, forse in Toscana o in Umbria.

E quando andrò in America, continuerò a studiare l’italiano.

In realtà, mi sembra le persone, anche se vivono in paesi diversi, sono molto simili tra di loro. E che tutti gli stereotipi sono sbagliati.

Eccetto uno: tutti gli italiani amano la pasta.

Key phrase/vocabulary: Ogni giorno – Everyday

Other phrases where it’s used are:

— Ogni giorno che passa… – Each day that goes by…

— Ogni santo giorno  – Every single day/every damn day

— Ogni giorno ti amo di più – I love you more each day.

Key collocation: Apprezzo i monumenti, la storia, il cibo, l’architettura, e la gente.

The word apprezzo comes from the verb apprezzare – appraise, value, appreciate, admire, highlight, or note.

This is important for you to know because when you’re praising anything from monuments to food and to people, you should know that you can use this verb to express that.

Key grammar: Vorrei vivere in Italia – I would like to live in Italy.

Vivere – means to live. Vorrei  – is the conditional form of the verb Volere – to want. You hear it often because you should use Vorrei when ordering food or drinks at a ristorante or bar.

Vorrei means I would like.

Then we use IN Italia because we use IN with countries.

Your task:

Out loud to yourself or in the comments below, tell me what you appreciate about Italia. Use this construction “Apprezzo….”

It could be:

La lingua

La gente

La storia

Le arti
